TEDx Portsmouth 2024
An Inspiring Opportunity to Explore Big Ideas
As a longtime resident of Portsmouth, NH, I’m proud to be part of a city that hosts one of the largest events in the country—TEDx Portsmouth. This annual event is 100% volunteer-run and features a diverse, carefully selected lineup of extraordinary speakers, performances, and some of the area’s best food vendors. I had the incredible opportunity to photograph all of the speakers and the two hosts for TEDxPortsmouth2024: Being Human, and the experience was both inspiring and humbling.
Photographing The Speakers
I feel so lucky to have had the chance to meet and photograph each of the speakers who brought this event to life. It was an amazing feeling to get to know all the speakers ahead of time; they are all such engaging, intelligent, and courageous people. A recording of the event will be available to view online in late August or early September at tedxportsmouth.com.
Photographing The Hosts And Producers
It was a great honor to meet and photograph Portsmouth’s Mayor, Deaglan McEachern, and Assistant Mayor, Joanna Kelley. I also enjoyed capturing two absolute powerhouses behind the event: Producer and Licensee Anna Goldsmith and Director Kaarin Olofsson Milne. I saw first-hand the remarkable effort, coordination, and passion they put into producing this event.

Photographing The Volunteers
While photographing the speakers, hosts, and producers was a wonderful experience and a lot of fun, I think photographing the volunteers was actually my favorite part. They were some of the most dedicated, interesting, and fun people I have ever met!
The studio was so loud and vibrant that evening; everyone was so full of energy and positivity that I can only describe it as the most vibrant environment I’ve ever been a part of. Getting to know this community of hard-working volunteers and seeing their excitement about having a chance to contribute to the event was an experience I will never forget.
